So I went to see "The Princess and the Frog" this week. It was enjoyable, but not great. It sure was glad to see hand-drawn animation back on the "Silver Screen" after many years, but Disney, and other studios, have to go farther to convince me this is for real and not another one-shot deal. I'm jaded to what these studios are going to do. I've about given up that Disney is interested in compelling stories and imagination.
These days Disney has about as much imagination as GE. That is telling in an article in the Orlando Sentinel earlier this year where Disney was caught saying how they're disappointed in the Pixar films because they aren't marketable enough. That is something Walt himself would NEVER have said. If he believed in that adage Disneyland and Walt Disney World would never have happened because THAT was a huge gamble.
The only reason 2-d animation is back at Disney is John Lassiter. Now that Disney bought Pixar....excuse me, Lassiter/Pixar bought Disney, traditionally animated films will once again be made at the Disney Studios. Pixar is handling the 3-d market just fine. Let's see if Lassiter can continue to control the "suits" at Disney who I'm sure are sweating the idea of even attempting hand drawn animation at the "House of Mouse" once again.
I'm just glad Roy Disney lived long enough to see the hand-drawn animation return to the screen. He was one of the few left, that I believe, really understood the ideas of what Walt Disney believed the Disney brand ought to be. He will be missed.

Emerald City Con 2013 Thank You
Emerald City Con 2013 was a hugely successful event for us. We ran through our Strawberry Shortcake issues, sold out of our SS trades, sold some copies of Scouts and did some commissions.
We renewed our booth for next year without hesitation, and loved the location - Right in the middle of a crop of talented all-ages content creators. I appreciate the job the organizers did putting together such a fantastic show.
